The first project supported by Mission Bambini Switzerland is located in Morbio, a project dedicated to early childhood , in cooperation with San Rocco Foundation.

The project “Intergenerational Park” aims to create a playground inside the retirement home managed by the San Rocco Foundation.

The integration of early childhood services inside the retirement home allows to accommodate children in spaces dedicated to them, offering at the same time the opportunity of interaction both with the residents and the visitors of the house, educating them to a dimension of community and care which families, always less numerous, can no longer offer.

With the cooperation of SUPSI (Scuola Universitaria Professionale della Svizzera Italiana) which has made the research “intergenerationality; a resource for society” and based on the experiences in North Europe, the Foundation Casa San Rocco has developed a new concept of retirement home.

With its integration of a range of services available to all segments of the population, the retirement home has become a place of welfare and social relations, where the different generations can find answers to their specific needs, strengthening the sense of belonging to the community, and especially for the elderly and the children “learn together”.

This new approach has already been embraced by the Morbio house, where at the ground floor has been arranged the bakery/pastry “Allegra”, a shop of local food products, the computer room and, on the outside, the organic vegetable garden cared for by residents.

The Foundation Casa San Rocco was founded in 1935 by Mons. Alfredo Noseda together with the Congregation of the Piccole Suore della Sacra Famiglia to meet the social needs of the elderly in Morbio/Inferiore.

A small villa with 20 beds managed entirely by the sisters which, in the course of timeit has been transformed and has grown up to today's reality. The Foundadion Casa san Rocco, in cooperation with Municipalities of Coldriero and Vacallo, has built two new structures and enlarged the Morbio house, creating a total of 240 beds.

Play-ground for children and the elderly

Inside the Morbio house the Foundation Casa San Rocco has also a space dedicated to pre-kindergarten activities, utilized by mothers with children 0 to 3 years old, to meet and socialize.

Having strong experience in the support of nurseries and play-grounds through the Program “ A nursery for every child” and considering that the attention for early childhood is one of the main features of this project, Mission Bambini Switzerland has decided to give its contribution to the development of this innovative model of “Intergenerational Park” promoted by San Rocco Foundation, which is unique in Ticino.
